Now, dutch artists and directors Lernert Engelberts and Sander Plug have documented 9 artists as they attempt to explain their often abstract art to their parents.
Their first of the How To Explain It To My Parents series regards a beer artist. The conversation is painful. But it seems that’s the point.

It is amazing how relationships everywhere follow such similar patterns. We are all such “independent” people, yet we crave “acceptance” at the same time. I think it’s about consciously recognizing the confusion that’s smudged across the heart of the people you care about. And instead of helping the wondering person get back to what they know, encouraging them to lean into that unknown. I am very grateful my parents told me to do what I love, not what I know.
